2019 end of year review

Hold onto your hats folks,

This is gonna be a lengthy one!

So lets start with the 2019 "Master plan"

World Eaters "Avon Calling" drop assault force - Missing the Javelin land speeder (ironically still sitting at the side of my painting desk partly assembled!)

Finish off my Adeptus Titanicus stuff - Na that crashed and burned! Not playing enough didn't give me enough mojo to crack them out.

Finish off the Algoryn for GoA - Na that didn't go anywhere! Basically I got distracted by Isorians!

Death Korps of Kreig - I suddenly discovered that 8th Ed 40k isn't particular good or I'm just really really bad at making lists that actually work!

Solar Aux - That went onto the back burner as I decided to focus on the World eaters and I needed so much armour that it I would need to re mortgage my house!

World Eaters Armoured Breakthough rite of war themed list - Apart from 2 rhinos and its good to go. however painting that many AFV's was quite a challenge and the satisfaction of getting them all completed was great.

Night Goblins / Moonclan/ Gloomspite Gitz - Didn't really play that much AoS so didn't have the motivation to get them done, tried a few games but wasn't really getting the feel of the game, maybe its the weird fluff? Who knows!

So out that pretty hefty list I managed to "kinda" complete 2 of them, quite a poor hit ratio for the year however a lot has been learnt so for the 2020 masterplan I'll be more realistic with my goal settings and work on projects that will keep me motivated for the year.

So lets start with January...

A storming start to the year with loads of guardsmen painted ready for the All scars slow grow campaign which fizzled out due to no real direction or leadership, but at least they gave it a crack!

following on from lots of infantry from the previous year I started on my world eater stuff, this was a bit of an experimentation and I was quite happy with how this came out.

unknown to me at this point I'd be painting alot of blue and white stuff though out the year!

February:

With a blood and plunder campaign kicking off at the club I used this an excuse to bust out some natives and these became the bane of some of the players once I sussed out how they worked!

I quickly discovered that I have way too many natives than I actually need, the joys of getting paid in demo credit I suppose!

and more stuff for the World eaters, rather than "planning" I was working on the backlog and painting stuff that I fancied. Hence the random dreadnought!

and in typical Anton fashion a test paint that was the start of something super sexy....

March:

The printer went into over drive!

Using an up coming show as an excuse, as a time critical goal always motivates me to get on with rather than looking at random shit  I cranked out a 4x4 zone mortalis table ready for chillcon with the help of my able assistant and some hardcore production line painting it was done in plenty of time!

Kurt and Luke were the willing victims to check out the scenario that we would be running at chillcon as well.

As a bit of a break from the metals I sorted out a guard kill team, once again proving that Russian green works on anything

April:

The dreaded month of salute! In both the pledge and what would need to be finished in time! I was running this is not a test with Phil and adding some large elements to Anton's length this was a bit of a "you want what doing" moment and some how managed to turn out a really nice looking table, lots of little details and all together looked lovely!

As for the traditional picking up a new system, I went for Mortal Gods, something that I've been looking forward to for a while and when the mythic add on gets released no doubt this will go straight to the top of I want to get it painted!

Painting wise it was a dry month as I had that much real life stuff go down it was bonkers and not in a good way!

May:

to distract myself from a few issues I decided to go into terrain mode and the 3D printer once again was in full swing printing some very cool bits off,

I picked up these STL's from infinite dimesion games - https://www.infinitedimensions.ca/

These are really well designed and they print superbly, and the amount of fantasy type terrain that this chap has designed is superb! well worth a look.

I also decided in a moment of madness to have a dabble in AoS thinking that would motivate me to play some more games,

and in all honestly I didn't even play with the pirate dwarves! so these got relegated to a box!

something that I found on thingieverse and spent along time printing went straight to the top of the "paint me" pile and it just happened to be blue & white!

This particular model has gone very well within the local 30K gaming group! It's only seen anger once, however I'm very happy how it came out in the end.

June:

The blog took a bit of a back seat due to once again real life throwing more spanners in the works! however to keep my mind occupied the painting continued!

Funnily enough it was more world eaters!!

finding 6 drop pods in the garage that were originally for my 40k Dark Angels quickly got re-purposed for the greatest legion in the world!

One test paint later to suss out the look more for the areas that would be blue.

July:

work continued on the armoured spearhead list, and once again digging around I found a couple of vindicators for repurpose these coming from a 40k chaos army ironically!

I pondered over these for a while with regards to where to put the blue and Nick from the club came up with the suggestion,

Whilst I was on a blue and white roll I threw a scarian into the mix as well as the command element of the armoured list, I've given myself to mount the side sponson's with heavy bolters as well.

August:

Initially the plan to start Rico was underway...

however due to another project that I had on the go at the same time that took over and apart from the cleaning the titan still remains in the box.

That will be until Christmas day - Rum, clippers, knives, glue and clamps will be in full effect! what could possibly go wrong!

On a positive note the bulk of the armoured list was done and dusted!

September:

You would have thought I would be bored of world eaters by now, but no.... I started working on the Recon rite of war....

as well as a couple of scout squads I also did the unmentionable....

A world eater librarian!

October:

After a bit of a curve ball with regards to GoA I went down the route of sci-fi looking armour basically I'm still painting white!

and I started making in roads on some burrows and badgers stuff

during this entire time the printer was working hard however it was bound to happen and I killed the printer, this in turn taught me quite a bit with regards to how it works and how it all goes together it was certainly a voyage of discovery!

at the same time clone wars hit the street and the droids where assembled and painted in record time!

I decided to step up and get the white elephant in the room done and hit the big boys, after doing the smaller drop pods I felt confident enough to tackle these head on, and due to the immense size these were painted in parts.

Not too sure how to store / transport these though!

November:

Operation fire kidneys, which was a project  took most of the month up along side "Winston"

December:

After painting Ross' knight I decided to continue the theme

To fight along side the world eaters and Winson House Xerathon was selected, I was also sick of painting blue and white!

I also decided to crack on with Angry Ron, after all I've painted that many world eaters I thought he should be leading the pack!

Something I stumbled across was some starwars models in Lidl and decided to give them a punt scale wise, With a quick repaint I was happy with how they came out!

Oh yea I painted a Warlord titan as well ;)

so as with 2018, 2019 was also a motherfucker of a year, however as a great man once told if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger.

well if thats the case I'm going into 2020 dressed for battle!

and once again huge man hugs to the collective over the last 12 months its been "intresting"

So lets look at the "pledge"

Bought - 352

Painted - 503

Differance + 151

quite a reasonable innings for the year, very happy that I've managed to break more than even and keep the random buying of stuff down compared to previous years!

Massive thanks to all the readers of the blog, viewers of the facebook page and lovers of the instagram - You guys & girls rock!

See you on the flip side and don't forget to drink loads of rum and hug the ones that you love.

October overview - death from the skies!!

Once again a blink of an eye October has flow by!

What a month it was as well!!

I went on a bit of a purge with some of my Gates of Antares stuff that I don't use and decided to re-invest that into more GoA stuff that I will use ;)

So after some pondering I decided as I'm now so good at painting white I figured why not and the isorians would become the white death!

A quick test paint was followed up by a usual Anton batch painting session and hey ho I've a skirmish force ready to rock and roll!!

Not content with a new force I decided it was time that I finished off some odds and sods that I've had kicking around for a while.

with an up and coming Burrows and badgers game I threw some paint on some models and hey presto another warband ready to go, including a big ass bear that I need to write some stats up for if I ever decide to run the system as a demo.

Not content with some Burrows and badgers I also had a bit of a terrain making phase and threw together some area terrain that I've had sitting around in a box for a while.

all I need to do is get some flock on the base and that'll be all sorted,

But this month wasn't all plain sailing.....

and after much bum clenching I managed to switch out the hot end of my prusa and get it fired back up, much to my delight!

so now that the printer is back up and running I figured it would be rude not to make some headway into the warlord....

so its been running full tilt with the armour plates, however this amount of time has given me some reading opportunity and I've decided to paint the warlord and the reaver in Mortis colours.

Not content with all the work done so far this month I moved my attention over to the droids from star wars legion clone wars and the basic starter set was done reasonably quick ready for a demo night in a few weeks,

and as one of my followers on facebook pointed out these might have a touch of Russian green, well maybe....

And then onto the grand finish for the month, I've had these two models kicking around for a while and I eventually plucked up the balls to crack on with them!

comparing to the other drop pods they are huge!

so all decaled, weather and armed with weapons these are finally finished and I'm very happy with how they look, I just need to suss out how to transport them to games!

So lets have a look at the pledge...

Bought - 52

Painted - 107 ( mainly the terrain)

Difference + 55

so a great start of the final push for 2019,

now for the month of November I'm not too sure what to focus on models wise, I'd like to get the clones done for starwars and the rat themed gang for burrows and badgers. But apart from that I'm not too sure, Maybe I should start on the warlord for the end of year project.....

September round up, Slow progress

So once again its that time to have a look at to see whats been going on in the land of the Anton.

After finishing off a couple of starter bits for the world eaters recon rite of war I decided it was about time that I stepped up and actually finished of the daddy of all drop pods!

Now before you get excited these are not done "yet" however the airbrushing has been done and I'm now in the process of the detail work so you'll have to wait for the reveal.

I figured that as I'm working on the two big boys I might as well add the deathwind pods to the production line as well!!

As you could imagine these have taken up a massive amount of time so the model count this month is pretty poor however once these are done its full steam ahead with a few bits that I'm eager to get done.

So with a pretty limited amount of models being painted lets have a look at the pledge...

Painted - 12

Bought - 39

 Difference - 27

So a warlord sale and chillcon where I just happen to pass on by the Oathsworn stand and pick up "a few bits" has blown my pledge out of the water for this month.

On the positive side the year to date numbers are looking good!

Painted - 293

Bought - 381

Difference +88

So with about 12 weeks left before we flip 2019 its time to put my game face on and paint the stuff that I've got!

Send in the armour! - August round up

So I've been slowing chugging through the latest rite of war for my world eaters, The armoured spearhead.

In a nut shell a fuck ton of predators and that's about it, Now this started off as a bit of a mess about list but has been quite tricky to perfect so far, with some very mixed results gaming wise.

So far I've managed 3 "troop" choices, a command option, heavy support and fast attack

I've still a few finishing touches to sort out in the form of shoulder pads for the commander and a knife pointing hand for one of the section leaders,

So whats left to round this fine treadhead force up to the standard 2.5k, well I've a couple of rhinos and a javelin to do and that's basically it however I need to crack on with those bits before I get distracted with the scouts that I "acquired" this month!

So lets have a look at the pledge....

Bought - 10

Painted - 6

Difference -4!

well its yet another shocker of low numbers from the Anton, however vehicles seem to take a fair amount of time to paint up when your doing multiples of them,

Will I get the rhinos and javelin done? who knows I'm like a hobby butterfly at the moment so lets wait and see on the next instalment of the Anarchy!

Deploy the War Engine!

Well would you believe it!!

We're already into August so that means the that the Anarchy is officially 10 years old, and the most polite way of saying its been entertaining!

For all the action packed facts I'll cover off in my end of year review however in the meantime what have I been up to?

Well I've been slowly working my way though more world eaters for 30K obviously avoiding the big boy drop pod as I need to grow some balls of steel and crack on with them!

Command element for the armoured spearhead is done and dusted, apart from the shoulder pads!

In a moment of "madness" I churned out the other 5 drop pods and 3 more predators. That leaves me with the last 3 predators, 2 rhinos and a javelin for the armoured spearhead to be "completed" for the orbital assault list I've 3 death storm pods to sort out as well as the 2 big boys and that will be that themed list "completed"

It's not all crazy ass marines I've been messing about with some old stuff I've had for a while...

Some reaper yeti's that will no doubt be used for This is not a test as most of my random model finds will be! However I've discovered a possible new system called Tribal that I'm looking to find out more about!

Once those last bits or world eaters are done it'll be onto the Recon rite of war and that I'm still sussing out the list however scouts with shot guns in storm eagles does have a "certain" appeal....

Other things I've got in the pipe line is working on Richo the Reaver in celebration of the 10 years of waffling on about all manner of plastic / resin crack! So you'll see updates now and then with regards to the build on that one and I'm also planning on getting the 3D printed warlord worked on at the same time, so that should keep me busy!

The Prusa is beasting it's way though the warlord!

and the reaver is ready for assembly!

So onto the pledge as its been a while !

Lets start with June:

Bought - 3
Painted - 7

Difference +4

I know a Shockley bad month for painting!

July:

Bought - 0
Painted - 12

Difference +12

Still poor numbers wise but its a positive number I suppose!

Once my shift settles down at work and a new chapter begins in the House of the Anton then I'm sure the productivity will certainly improve!

The May Round up,

Well its a bit late but hey ho, its better late than never!

So May.....

It flew by and its was a month of mixed projects,

So I painted some crooked dice Ants using a zenith highlighting then with some washes shot through my air brush,

real quick and easy, and looks pretty good, Ironically I did these and GW announce the contrast paints which I'm looking to paint a whole lot of skaven with to speed up them!

other bits and bobs that I did was a 3D printed 40K container,

looks ok and will do for scatter terrain for the ZM board, only down side to this piece was the print time!

and talking of the ZM board the doors have been sorted out so I can say that the 3x3 is finished!

The only other thing that I've done is a test paint for the orbital assault list that is next for the world eaters.

just another 5 to go!

So its been a reasonable month with regards to painting....

Bought - 89
Painted - 48

Difference -41

however due to a superb deal from Dan, the bought pile flew through the roof!!

However lets see what happens for the month of June even though we are half way though, so best put down the PS4 controller and pick up a brush!
