Month end update June!

Jesus how fast is this year flying by! and the really scary part is Anton Mk2 is due on the 16th September so time to start sorting out the house ready for the little pitter pater of paint brush welding mini-me!

Now I've tried to "convince" the other half to name it Typhus but doesn't understand where the name comes from and doesn't like it as it sound like typhoid, so I might get away with a middle name for it! LOL yea right!

Anyway for those who are in good old blighty will know that the traditional English summer has arrived (i.e. its either fucking scorching or shite!) and yup its scorching!! so that's slowed my painting down a bit as it gets warm in the room that I paint in and I'm too lazy to buy a fan... but maybe a trip to Argos is called for!

Anyway enough whaffling!  So I decided to get the Orc & Goblin brigade and some extra bits at the start of the month and managed the following.....

now that's a massive 75 models in 30 days!

Night Goblin unit 1 I'm thinking of adding a extra rank to take it to a unit size of 25 for both units

Second unit

6 frothing nutters!

The wolf riders that I blasted out over the last weekish

and the gravity deifying orc warriors, again I'm going to do another 6 to take these up to 25 as they only have a T-shirt save!

Now even with 4 units it still leaves me well short for the "pledge"

Bought   127

Painted   77

Difference -50!

so with fantasy 8th Ed out on the 10th July I'm hoping to get a unit of orc's with spears done, and maybe just maybe the black orc's if I can get that done then I've only the spider riders, boar boys, chariot and the lords and hero's that I've picked up over the last few weeks, 4 orc guys and a shammy.

Now the other thing I should confess to is that since reading part of Helsreach that Chris lent me I'm in love with Black Templar's! Much to Ross' disgust when I picked up the high marshal fella Helbrecht and I've already worked out in my head how I can do a really cool looking emperors champion using a double handed sword from the blood angel golden nipple marines (no idea on the name!) and the rest being made up of normal templar bits.

I'll be posting up an army list over the next couple of weeks, after sitting down with my military advisor and getting some general tips on how "normal" marines work! Well after playing pure chaos for about 4 years I'm getting excited about drop pods and all the other cool toys! But the golden question is do I go for codex space marine or codex Templars?

Answers on a post card.....

Orc boyz Done.

well as the title suggests I've managed to get my third unit done for the Orc & Goblin army, I started with a how to guide then my camera decided to have a spazy on me so I've lost all the stage photos? but I've still the spear armed unit to do so I'll do the guide for those guys,

I was also wandering around the net looking for idea on how to convert savage orcs from the plastic ones, I couldn't find anything that was of much use but I did find possibly the best Orc & Goblin army (if carlsberg made miniatures) have a butch at this thread from the warhammer forums, truely superb work!

Clicky Click!

any way on to my quite dull and "ok" painted boyz compared to that lot.....

So a quick group shot of the lot...

And whilst I was picking up some bits and bobs the other night I decided to give the army builder magnet basing kit a pop....

Its a winner in my eyes!!

I also ended up chatting to hutch one of the gifts for geeks locals about the new 8th Ed and what I'm hearing its gonna be mint so this has spurred me on even more to get some more done!

First look at Malifaux

Greetings Loved ones,

Myself and my esteemed college Chris aka suneokun blogy blog decided to put the dice down and give Malifaux a crack, normally we tend to play 40K and try and rape each other on the table top with both of us bring dirty tricks onto the field, but I'll be honest Chris tends to get the upperhand as he's got the tactical mind of Rommel!

anyhow..

So we but our crews aka the skirmish force rolled flipped for the scenario and you have a separate mission each which was quite cool, and then decided to fumble our way though the first couple of turns,

With Chris deciding to get his boot muddy first performs a charge action again one of my undead zombie samurai (the name makes me smile!) and that's when it started to go tits up, as neither of us had really read the book and I had a rough idea and Chris had remembered some bits we sat there laughing at each other as the bemused look on my face grew with myself mumbling what does Ht mean??? and various other jargon words.

So after a lengthy period where Chris managed to pimp slap a zombie and I'd cast a spell from my boss/master/leader I couldn't find the rules for what the actual spell did! so we decided to wrap it up,

Only when I sat down with no distractions (aka Ross playing the starwars old republic MMO trailer and the 40K MMO trailer on the shop computer) did I manage to find the relevant bits we needed on Tuesday night!

So I suppose the golden question is would I play it again??

Yes, but I'd need to either make a reference sheet for the triggers & effects rather than just flicking through the book and actually read the rules a couple of times before trying to play a full on game.

Would I recommend it to others?

Yes and No, yes because the cards rather than dice are a nice change and you can "cheat" fate and reflip which is cool, No because the book is quite heavy with regards to rules more diagrams or examples are really needed but if your used to playing more than one system then sure you should be able to pick this up and run with it after a couple of hours worth of studying.

Models?

This is what got me to pick it up, OK there not your usual "40K/warmachine" size but the detail is spot on and the whole feel is something from a horror film.

So that's My thoughts and feelings on the first outing for Malifaux, all I need to work on is a cheat sheet and get another game under my belt and I'll be rocking with this one!

Challange Ant..... Menoth - Done?

Alrighty so for some reason I wanted to get this Menoth monkey cranked out, was it the man points that I'd gain from the guys or the burning in my eyes everytime I looked at the model??

Ok so undercoated black as most or the model is non white and I don't have any white spray ;)

So I started with boltgun metal on the chainmail bits and banged some black ink on it

Foundation red for the cloak bits

Scab red over that and blood red to high light then red ink over that and then brassy brass on the bits that would become gold

So then gold over the brass and gryphonne sepia was to put some depth onto the gold, then dheneb stone for the white undercoat and bleached bone got me to this point

So the model was going fairly smoothly until I hit the white...

So the first coat,

and then two more thin coats later, I decided enough was enough, I watered down some gryphonne sepia and put that on the edges of the armour,

So over all not too bad, the white is "ok" I'd maybe go with a more bleached bone look aka deathwing type white.

What do you think? how would you paint the above?

Challange Ant..... Menoth!!

Now I got a text from a good friend of mine Spencer The Oracle throwing down a challange for my good self,

To paint a Warmachine Menoth infantry model.....

Now for those people who might not know me that well... I hate menoth with a passion, example being if you gave me a 50 point army for free I'd put it on ebay!

Why you might ask? well its all Lee's fault after years of getting my ass whupped in mk1... but with mk2 its a differant story.... until the UK masters that was...

Anyway I digress... so this is the little monkey ball licker....

thats all I've got to do... now the reason why Spencer has challenged me to paint this sword welding peice of cheese is all to do with the colours that I tend to use, aka I paint dark evil style armies which is very true I've never been one for "the good guys" so time to break out the whites and give it a pop!

The other thing that Spencer wants is a step by step like the Night Goblin post so I'll be blasting this up hopfully this week if I don't get distracted by facebook games or shiney stuff in my gaming room!

Anton "The Warboss" guide to Painting Night Goblins

Ok so with the pending release of fantasy 8th ed I've decided to take the plunge and get an army together prior to the release,

Now I've had a few raised eyebrows from the local guys as they know that "I don't do square bases" and add that with the fact that they might "screw up" fantasy this could either be a fantastic chance to get a nice looking army painted up or if the neighsayers are right, a charity auction for a good friend of mine who lost his son, either way its going to be a good experiance.

So onto the guide, I wanted to get the army done to a fairly decent tabletop standard and look nice from a couple of feet away but not crap fairly close up. The other this that I've kept in mind that your going to have to paint alot of the blighters so I've done a simple scheme.

Tools:

Now I've been using the Winsor Newton range for a while and these are my weapons of choice (except for basing!) I get mine from Antenocitis workshop good service and loads of funky little bits that have a ton of uses!

The stages:

I've not bothered showing the construction & priming I'going to assume that you guys know what your doing with that bit ;)

After Spraying Black, Do a black/codex grey hightlight on the robes of the model you can be as messy as you like at this point!

pick out the metal on the model with boltbun metal,
the spear tip and the edge of the shield.

Using the foundation paint calthan brown do the spear wood and the belt round the body.

Wash with Badab ink to dull down the robe highlights and the wood.

Foundation paint Iyanden Darksun over the moon icon on the shield. then just use golden yellow, I then washed with Gryphonne sepia to give it a bit of depth.

Foundation paint Knarloc Green over the skin.

Goblin Green over the knarloc green

Mix golden yellow with the goblin green for highlighting the skin you take this as high as you like, then wash with Thrakar green.

Then its onto the eyes which was a blob of blood red and the teeth which was bleached bone, I washed the teeth with Gryphonne sepia

Apply the usual basing technique that you use, myself I use scorched brown, wetbrush graveyard earth then wetbrush kommando khaki, I decided to paint the edges of the base with scorched brown rather than black.

Bang on the flock, I've made my own mix out of the galeforce nine range, winter/dead grass + flock blend autumn, the flock blend gives a little stubstance to the flock rather than patches of green.

Now as I did the step by step there I decided to paint the rest of the night goblins, all 46 of the buggers!

Group shot

Close up of the models

The only thing I've left to do is sort out a movement tray, but I'l going to hold back on that at the moment.

So what do you think? what would you do differant and is it detailed enough?

I'll be doing normal orc boys next with two hand weapons......

Things that make you go WTF!

Its not very often that I start ranting about some of the cheese that you get in the 40K game system, but after tonights game against Steve, I need to suss a way to take down Mephiston!

this guy has to be worse than the space wolf special's....

OK so you start off with Transfixing gaze, now as its a leadership test, even fearless models have to take it at -4! fail well reroll all failed hits & wounds.

Ok so thats not too bad I thought... rolling in at Int 7, jesus wept he's fast!

So hitting on 3's and oh by the way he's strength 10! and its a power weapon, so instant killing any non eternal warrior multi wound model, which is most of the chaos codex.....

so if you do manage to survive the beasting from the man who can, you then hit back, 4's as an average, then onto wounding.... Toughness 6! thats the same as wraithguard!

Armour save? well it'd be rude not to offer a 2+ save with a mere five wounds to boot! and as he's a psychic hood your force weapon roll is nullified on a 4+

throw in a jumppack and fleet and this bad boy has a 19 - 24 inch threat range, the only this thats going for him is that he carn't join squads and had no inv save.

So the question is how to take him down??

Kick him in the spud or twat him with a frying pan?

The Tyrants on tour aka the UK warmachine national masters 2010!

**** Warning lots of reading & lots of Pictures ****

( Get yourself a brew, kick back chill out and read away! )

Well what a weekend, shag loads of beer and tons of dice rolling in my eyes that a winner for a good time
(but this is ablog about wargaming so I'll keep it relevent!)

 The Tyrants!!

Any way, so 6 games at 50 points each, no worries I thought carn't be that hard?

Well I didn'nt really think that this was the UK championships that should have set my alarm bells ringing with regards to the quality of players and the types of army lists....

So a summary of the games I'm terrible with names so remembered none! so apologises in advance...

Game 1:

Against Khador, not a bad game to draw to start off with, but the chap had some "intresting" habits is the most polite why to describe it, He used scorsha some winterguard with cotton eye Joe, a couple of big jacks and odds and sods. I won the game with one control point but we maxed out the time limit off 100 minute game time! The game was "ok" but the actual person put me off some what.

Game 2:

Khador again! this time against a welsh chap who actually responded to my questions and understood my sense of humor, used epic irusk with loads of infantry, had a flanking/ambushing unit that caught me off guard (i.e. I didn't know they could do that!) and it was a really bloody affair! Won this one (much to my surprise) with a caster kill, but the genius part of it was that his caster was in combat with my arc node so I soul gate'd the arc node out of combat and blasted him with with hex blast but he's already taken alot of damage due to channelling spells in the previous turn. Overall a cracking game had a lot of fun and the chap was sound so that was good!!

Game 3:

So I'd won two on the trot (and the only one of the entire Tyrant team!) So I was propelled into the big boys part of the playground, and Menoth wanted to play, This chap used the Harbringer (My response was "who?") and my lack of knollage took its toll on this game, I got my ass handed to me, but it was a bloody good game the chap knew what he was doing and was very very techincal but wasn't a twat about it, took his time so that I understood what was going on so still good...

So end of day one, only me and Danny had wins under our belts and we decided to enjoy ourselves with a bloody good night out....

and the dancers where nice to look at ;)

But we paid the price the next day....

Game 4:

Sporting a very groggy head I faced my first Hordes army of the day a lovely painted trollblood army (that I didn't get any pictures of) and the first words out of my mouth "thats a fuck load of trolls!" which kinda set the mood that I'm a casual player! this game was tight as a tiger with missed oppertunites my both sides for the caster kill the good old monkeys with guns hit with there harpoons but was one point away from damaging the caster so failed to drag him towards goreshade and the bane thralls kick the shit outta him, but the earthbound troll went stomping over my line and ate goreshade in two round of combat. The chap was sitting there saying that he's screwed it up etc.. but work mode kicked in and told him to chill etc.. then my caster kill plan went tits up! LOL

Game 5:

Ok so I was starting to slide down the rankings and the rest of the boys where getting some wins under there belts, so the pressure was on for the "Anton" to produce the goods.... Well again it was menoth and the Harbringer, how ever the bloke was a fucking dickhead, using the rule of measuring control range from the caster which was 20 inches to check his charges through out the whole game, and even when I questioned him about this he was blatant about what he was doing by saying yea I'm checking my charges.. well I had to maintain my composure on this one, as I wanted to face plant him into the table!

The actual game is erased from memory.... (for health and safety)

Game 6:

So after 3 fags back to back and ranting at Danny and Spencer (cheers for letting sound off chaps) I was ready to fuck off the last game if it was menoth, but it was a chap from manchester with merc's, First thing that went though my mind was fuck never played merc's!!
But the chap was sound as a pound went though everything and it was a lovely game to finish on, lost it mind you but I actually said that even though I was defeated that was one of the best ways that I've been taken out basicly in a nutshell some woman ninja leaped over my entire line and stood behind goreshade, he turned to bitch slap her, and then using some cracking shooting spell buffs arcing fire shot gorshade in the back and that was it game over! but kudos to the fella and got some advice with regards to the pirates that I'll be getting off Danny for doing his everblight.

These are some of the armies that caught my eye on the Saturday...

Some Nice looking cryx

Some smelly Menoth, but lovely painting

The only retribution army that I spotted!!

Some circle, which I think was the winning army?

This lot took my breath away, cracking looking army!!!

So the finial standings.....

So overall we didn't fair too bad for the first real torney, and for me to finish up the table is pretty good in my eyes considering I didn't have much of a plan apart from getting trashed so saturday night!

But the bit that gave me that warm feeling inside was when I took the walk up the centre of the room surrounded by 126 clapping and loud whoops to take the sportsmanship award! something that I hadn't expected, I know people say I'm fun to play against but to be awarded this from strangers that I meet on the day was cracking!!

Sportsman prize... nice ;)
