Winter weathered Cygnar - Warmachine

One of the guys at the club asked me to crack out some stuff for him, Normally I don't bother with painting other people stuff as I have more than enough to keep me occupied however Joe's a good lad so I figured why not!

The original brief was WW2 style Americans and that mutated into a whitewash looking jack heavy army...

To be honest this threw me out of my comfort zone as I'd never tried that type of look before so off to you tube I went and after a few hours of learning new stuff I decided to go for it!

So the first batch, mainly all jacks, according to Big Joe this is a bit of a naughty list? means bugger all to me!

The goblin guys were cool to paint and I made the skin colour a little lighter than I would normally do, the gamble paid off!

No idea on the names of the jacks, but the same paint scheme was applied to each one and Joe's happy with them so all is peachy! Now its onto the infantry so I'll do that in units so I don't lose the will to live!

as "payment" I'm getting hold of a faction that's caught my eye,

not sure on the colour scheme yet so might have a mooch on google images and see what catches my eye!

arrgh me hearties! - Spanish Blood & Plunder

Well it would appear that the deadline that Lee gave me kick started my painting mojo!

Given a weeks notice I cracked out the Spanish that I got from the Blood and Plunder KS a while back, all that's needed for these is some transport and I'm done!

The models are painted to a fairly basic standard however the dirty and grubby look suits them well, I went with quite restricted colours.

The bases I did try something different though, rather than the usual sand, paint it brown base colour then two levels of high light I simply got some soft wash really watered it down and put it on the sand whilst the PVA was drying then let it dry over night, then a quick dry brush of yellow ochre and that was it!

Currently firelock games have a second kickstarter running to add the Dutch, Pirates and the native Caribbeans as well as some extra ships into the product line. blood and plunder no peace beyond the line

go have a mooch and get involved!

June The Pledge, Crash and burn baby!

Well no easy way of looking at this month!

Bought : 139
Painted : 19

Difference : -120!

Yea I might have gone a bit bonkers on 8th Edition and got a load of pox walkers and not forgetting about the eldar they increased in the ranks as well.

Add on the fact that the weather has been scorching for the second half of June turning the geek room into a sauna I've done bugger all!

However rather than dwell on the doom and gloom at least I now have in incentive to get some stuff done with my blood and plunder Spanish that need doing by next weekend and the Derby show rapidly approaching so that's the K47 Russains that need cracking out.

Also with a 1000 point 40K torney over at Weekend Warlords I'm gonna be looking to field a fully painted force and maybe just may be I can get some "man points" for a nicely painted army!

Oh did I mention that school holidays start in two weeks.....

Operation Don't kill the GC will be great fun, now to try and teach her to airbrush......

Preparing for 8th, The Rebirth!

Way back when I started this blog it was mainly 40K that I was posting and over time that started to whittle away and get replaced with various systems that have come and gone over the years,

However with the release of 8th Ed this coming weekend an inner fire has reignited mainly due to the social media marketing from GW, Something that I'd thought I'd never see!

As I've an extensive collection of various armies from 40K the most sensible thing would be to dust off one of those and start learning again....

But this is the Anton that we are talking about and what better way to get frothy about a new system is to purchase and paint a "patrol" type force!

Eldar or what ever they will be called in the new edition have always been an army to float my boat way back when I played space marine with my old man.

One of my favourite unit type for the eldar is the wraithguard, so in a moment of madness I got hold of some plastic crack and simply went for it!

As I knew that the rules would be changing and all that jazz I was tempted to only part build them and then once I'd sussed out the rules then configure the army to a strong play style, That didn't quite goto plan!

In my mind I wanted to paint the army in the colour of the Iyanden craftworld, it fits the fluff and also has one of the hardest colours known to man. Yellow!

I also decided to try something completely different with this force and do the core colour with an airbrush. It's made a massive difference and the above force was painted in about a week!

So if your in the Leicester area and are free on the 17th pop on down the Leicester Phat cats for a day of 8th Edition and blow away some yellow dudes!

The Pledge - May

Half way through 2017 already, Bloody hell best start wrapping up some random projects I've had kicking around for the first half of the year!

So what have I been up to recently?

I started a shadow war gang in the form of orks and ended up being the most expensive conversions that I've done for infantry as I hit the spellcrow website and went "shopping"

The theme of the models are latino gangsters hence the uniform colours, lots of GTA was played as "research"

Slowly I've been adding to the smurfs, however with the 8th edition ready to drop in a couple of weeks I pulled back on the painting until I could see what might be happening, as the future looks bright I banged out these guys.

shame that 30K is staying within the monster that is 7th.

Finally I did some more random models for this is not a test, add the bits of resin terrain that I get from crooked dice the other week, I should really start on the terrain for the board!

These guys are from brother vinnies, superb models and the details is great, however with Morphus recently announcing that they are doing a fallout game it'll be interesting to see how they compare.

So onto the "Pledge"

Bought - 31
Painted -  56

Difference + 56

a stark change compared to April where picking up the models for the Derby board killed the April pledge!

Chillcon 2017

So this was another new show for me,also the furthest that I'd travelled north for a show!

For this one we dug out the AvP temple board, it also gave us a chance to have a mooch at the new wargames rules that Lee picked up at Salute,

Lee doing his thing!

Pics of various tables within the same room,

And some tables from the "trader" room

This time bandits game looked superb, the amount of detail was superb

And back to the tables in the demo/ open play room

a view of the demo room,

The bolt action torney

The view of the trade hall,

I managed to have a good mooch about and grabbed the following bits for the ongoing but not yet started this is not a test board!

I also found these funky looking models and they cost bugger all!!

Plently more choice on the web site four a miniatures

So overall thoughts on Chillcon considering it was the first one is that it was a bloody good effort, still a few things to work on but the board was busy during the day and a reasonable amount of people were mooching about.

were you at Chillcon, if so what were your thoughts?
