Painting the 14th Assault Company - Warpath Enforcers

A couple of months ago the Ant "bomb" was dropped on the mantic project I was given 35 enforcers and asked to do something with them.

With a brief of the table will be a desert type board I was left to my own devices...

As usual I did a quick test paint and got the thumbs up from Nic,

So a nice and easy step by step for the guys who want to emulate the colour scheme

Start off with Khaki, I found a spray from halfords that does the jobs lovely!

for the armour plates I used good old Russian green!

then metallic on the gun and sponged the armour for a weathered look, once that was done I simply hit it with a medium wash and based, Nothing too taxing simply rinse and repeat,

The following lot was done in about a week over a few nights.

Sadly I never got these back so they've gone to the big hole in the wargaming sky!

Deadzone campaign the final turn,

Late in 2014 I started a deadzone campaign at Leicester Phat cats and a couple of weeks ago it was the final turn, which I decided to have a mass game of all the players who took part in the campaign,

I also decided to get the new plastic enforcers painted up for one of the painting challenges that I take part on the mantic maddness facebook page, Richard does a sterling job of keeping the masses in check. Check out the page and get pledging!

mantic.madness

and Richard also runs a cracking blog, go check him out and give him some love! http://www.yith.co.uk/

So if you've not seen the plastic sprues I snapped a few when they arrived a while back,

and some forge fathers for good measure!

the details on the plastic is cracking and Mantic have really hit the nail on the head with these guys,

so after sussing out how to put these together which my tip of the day is don't go mental clipping out the bits as they are numbered so you know what goes where!

I splashed some paint on them to match the restic versions that I got as part of the deadzone wave one,

I had a couple of dropout due to various reasons, however the evening was still an action packed gun-fest!

Overall the campaign went fairly well, the post game section needs some reading prior to the actual game night! However when I was at the mantic open day last year Jake has plans for the campaign system which I'm really looking forward to, the only downside is that its yet another kickstarter so the temptation to add stuff one will have to be controlled!

The only thing that I'd like to get sorted out is the deadzone terrain buy the end of the year,

Deadzone - Send in the meat shield!

I mentioned in my previous post that I'd painted some deadzone zombies for the final campaign turn, these are a mixture of the ones that I picked up in the deadzone kickstarter and some that I picked up on one of the many facebook trading pages,

So the unwashed masses!!

a fairly basic paint scheme but will do the job lovely for the deadzone game,

and there you have it 45 hungry zombies ready to eat!!

Deadzone - Asterians spotted

After getting very excited about plastic squares and little connectors, I actually started looking at the models that came in the wave 2 care package,

I'm not going to fill the blog up with pictures of the models as various other blogs on the net are doing a great job of showing these off,

The models that caught my eye were the Asterians which is a bit of a surprise and normally I avoid skinny elven types, however for what ever reason I really like them and the rules for the faction/army are really nice, So I decided to get these sorted out for the campaign that I'm running at the Phat Cats,

So in about a week or so I've managed to get the following done,

5 cypher's with noh rifles, 5 with charge gloves, 1 force rifle, 2 black talons, 1 sky razor, 1 missile launcher, 1 fission beam, overseer, prime and 2 drones with options for shield generator, plasma vortex and fission beam. Including the Asterian merc I've the best part of 300 points and as deadzone is based around 70 point missions its a tad overkill as usual!

5 cyphers with noh rifles one of the troops that you can take,

5 cyphers with charge gloves, the other troop type, combat specialist but with a 5+ combat stat and a 3+ shooting stat I don't see these being much use on the table top once they go toe to toe with plague dogs, swarms and stage 2's. Shame really as the poses are very dynamic

the black talons, a rare choice and with some very funky rules

The specialists, Missile launcher with AP4, force rifle designed for suppression and a fission beam which it it hits with a 3+ shoot stat is very dirty!

On the right you have the overseer which to date is the only leader model that the Asterians can field and at 25 points its a big point sink at 70 point unless your playing the larger point games, he has no real shooting weapons it all about buffing the force with his command points and can activate a whopping 7 models a turn!

The other guy is the prime, a pure close combat chap with an energy shield,

The sky razor, one of the coolest looking models that mantic have done personally, and I was expecting it to be aright pain in the arse to put together but to my surprise it went together with not major issues what so ever!

These are the cheapest models in the army at a mere 8 points so I'm hoping that mantic release these as single models as you can only get them in the reinforcement pack at the moment,

and finally onto the drones, I've also painted the fission beam turret I simply forgot to snap a pic.

these guys are interesting that the survive is 6+ so not particular good, and the various weapons that they are able to take gives you a nice bit of variation, the rules that these guys run with are quite nice with the gun platforms getting sentry which after reading the rules is a great rule and the shield generator seems to be a mastercard unit for keeping your firebase alive from all the gunfire.

Asterians look like a tricky force to play with the high points cost of the models you'll always be outnumbered unless its enforcers in peacekeeper armour!

The other thing I've noticed is that as they have construct they are always classed as alert so carn't be pinned however they are not able to go engraged and don't have brawler so if you fluff your roll the combat based guys are only on base dice after the first round of combat.

Add vulnerable into the mix where you only have to do one damage point rather than 2 to drop them they could become a very hard force to play if the enemy are totting lots of AP2 weapons.

The actual models themselves are quite nice, and the clean up wasn't too bad compared to some of the other mantic stuff in the past, when warpath goes live then I'll be having to make a hard choice of what faction to focus on as the Asterians are at the top of the rule of cool list.

Deadzone wave 2 has landed!

well technically it landed about 3 weeks ago, however due to "real life" I've been bloody busy stopping Isla trying to basejump from various things, maybe all those times watching the history channel has made her want to be a paratrooper?

any way on to the plastic crack!

so a bit of scenery all clipped off the sprues ready for a building session over at Kris' gaff,

and all the funky stuff,

scarily enough the 2nd wave of deadzone weighed more that when Isla was born!

So after an evening of brew induced madness and banter another battlezone is born!

this was the first time that Kris had played with the mantic terrain and it was a simple task of "go wild" and away he went, loads of funky buildings on this one!

so when I had some day light I set up the previous set up and I've got quite a bit of terrain now!

I've also picked up a few odds and sods to mix it up and add some variety to the terrain, these pair I picked up off a chap on a facebook trading page, I'll simply get rid of the tau markings and they'll fit in great,

the other bits I've picked up are from warsenal and these will make up a urban park that I've got planned, usable for both deadzone and infinity.

and all the terrain was just in time for the deadzone campaign night, so these were the three tables that we set up,

Keith was good enough to bring his stuff along,

Justin's Reb's against Alex's Maruaders, the stunt bot was being a paint in the arse for most of the night!

Lee's Reb's against Dan's plague, this was Lee's first game and he fared quite well against the unwashed masses!

Nick's Marauders against Keith's Plague, the swarm was the game changer and caused mayhem, I loved it!!

however Nick's dice rolling is blessed!

so the first round was quite well found with the following "stats" coming out...

Player    Misson           Win?   Kills  MVP

Alex      Steady Lads    Yes      2        Marauder Commando, combat nut case
Justin     Break though  No      3        Sortak
Dan        Headhunt        Yes     4        Stage 2
Lee        Scavenge         No      2       Terraton
Keith     Quietly does it No      7       Swarm
Nick      Occupy            Yes     7       TBC

the kill count from Keith and Nick is brutal, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next round!
